Institution supports free-to-use digital BIM tool

Project is a key enabler of the move to deliver Level 2 BIM on central Government procurement from April 2016.
The Institution of Structural Engineers and six other professional bodies covering design, construction, operation and management in the built environment are supporting NBS, part of RIBA Enterprises, in its development of a free-to-use digital BIM tool for the BIM Task Group. Vertical and Indoor 9-1-1 Location Mapping

In June 2011, NENA approved an end-state architectural vision for NG9-1-1 in the United States that includes indoor 9-1-1 caller location sub-address elements such as building name, floor, suite, room, and seat.

The question is not WHY should one ban the use of paper on construction sites but WHY NOT?

The starting premise is similar to all ‘BIM stories’, it builds on the theory that the AEC industry is notoriously bad at modernising its processes and its archaic information management causes losses to many, if not all participants.
The proposed solution to the problem is however fundamentally different to most globally accepted ‘mainstream’ BIM approaches.
Rather than turning to smart tools, software packages, programmes and systems, the onus of the strategy is put on the non-BIM construction practitioners to raise their performance.
