Institution supports free-to-use digital BIM tool

Project is a key enabler of the move to deliver Level 2 BIM on central Government procurement from April 2016.
The Institution of Structural Engineers and six other professional bodies covering design, construction, operation and management in the built environment are supporting NBS, part of RIBA Enterprises, in its development of a free-to-use digital BIM tool for the BIM Task Group. BIFM, CIBSE, CIOB, ICE, RIBA, RICS and the Institution are all providing cross-industry support and technical advice to the project, which is a key enabler of the move to deliver Level 2 BIM on central government procurement from April 2016… read full article

OSBORNE’S RENNIE CHADWICK SAYS 50% OF 2015 WORK AT LEVEL 2

The year ahead for £325m turnover contractor Osborne will see a “step change” in the volume of public sector projects using BIM, according to Dr Rennie Chadwick, the company’s director of design and IT and a member of the CIOB Innovation and Research panel.
Chadwick predicted that projects delivering Level 2 BIM would make up 10% of its turnover at the start of 2015, rising sharply to 50% by the end of the year… read full article

CIOB-backed group lines up against BRE and NBS to develop key BIM tool

The CIOB is part of a consortium taking on the BRE and RIBA Enterprises’s NBS for the contract to develop a crucial “missing link” in Level 2 BIM – the digital plan of work. BRE announces BIM Level 2 training and certification pathway

BRE is now providing a BIM Level 2 Training and Certification Pathway, to help construction professionals develop the necessary skills to meet the BIM challenge and new ways of working.
The Government’s BIM Strategy requires the delivery of BIM Level 2 using set process standards such as PAS1192-2:2013, which identifies specific roles to facilitate the delivery of information, namely an Information Manager (project or task) and a Project Delivery Manager…. read full article

HS2 survey to gauge suppliers’ BIM capability

The commercial director of HS2 is urging contractors and consultants to respond to a survey it is conducting with consultant Mace to help gauge whether the potential supply chain is ready to work to Level 2 BIM.
BIM Level 2 will be required for all central government projects after 2016 and HS2 will be one of the first major public infrastructure projects to use it from the start procuring and managing data for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the new high speed rail link…
