The Institution of Structural Engineers and six other professional bodies covering design, construction, operation and management in the built environment are supporting NBS, part of RIBA Enterprises, in its development of a free-to-use digital BIM tool for the BIM Task Group. OSBORNE’S RENNIE CHADWICK SAYS 50% OF 2015 WORK AT LEVEL 2
The year ahead for £325m turnover contractor Osborne will see a “step change” in the volume of public sector projects using BIM, according to Dr Rennie Chadwick, the company’s director of design and IT and a member of the CIOB Innovation and Research panel.

CIOB-backed group lines up against BRE and NBS to develop key BIM tool
The CIOB is part of a consortium taking on the BRE and RIBA Enterprises’s NBS for the contract to develop a crucial “missing link” in Level 2 BIM – the digital plan of work. BRE announces BIM Level 2 training and certification pathway
BRE is now providing a BIM Level 2 Training and Certification Pathway, to help construction professionals develop the necessary skills to meet the BIM challenge and new ways of working.

The commercial director of HS2 is urging contractors and consultants to respond to a survey it is conducting with consultant Mace to help gauge whether the potential supply chain is ready to work to Level 2 BIM.
BIM Level 2 will be required for all central government projects after 2016 and HS2 will be one of the first major public infrastructure projects to use it from the start procuring and managing data for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the new high speed rail link…
