Majority of firms are ‘using’ BIM, says NBS

Results of the latest National BIM Survey, released this week by NBS, suggest the industry is at a tipping point with BIM moving from niche practice to a process adopted – at least for some projects – by the majority, says NBS head of research Adrian Malleson.

BRE announces BIM Level 2 training and certification pathway

BRE is now providing a BIM Level 2 Training and Certification Pathway, to help construction professionals develop the necessary skills to meet the BIM challenge and new ways of working.

Survey: 2013 RIBA Plan of Work taken up by 13%

The 2013 version of the RIBA Plan of Work is slowly gaining ground within the industry, according to research by construction information supplier NBS.
The 2013 Specification Survey survey quizzed a range of industry professionals, most of them product specifiers, and found that just 13% of respondents were using RIBA Plan of Work 2013 as their only tool for organising project work, whereas 42% said they used only the 2007 version. BIM Digital Plan of Work bidders wait for news

Industry organisations bidding to devise the Digital Plan of Work that will give the industry a vital template on how to manage Level 2 BIM are due to shortly hear whether their proposals will be funded by the Technology Strategy Board.
The TSB is running a £1.5m procurement exercise on behalf of the government’s BIM Task Group to find a project team that will put together a free-to-use system for managing the flow of design and construction information via BIM…. read full Articles

HS2 survey to gauge suppliers’ BIM capability

The commercial director of HS2 is urging contractors and consultants to respond to a survey it is conducting with consultant Mace to help gauge whether the potential supply chain is ready to work to Level 2 BIM.
BIM Level 2 will be required for all central government projects after 2016 and HS2 will be one of the first major public infrastructure projects to use it from the start procuring and managing data for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the new high speed rail link…
