Smart cities market forecasted to reach over $ 1 trillion by 2019

Urbanization is a worldwide phenomenon. Smart city technology is becoming an essential element in the development of the world’s megacities. For example, the new Indian government’s just released budget includes an allocation for initiating the development of 100 smart cities. The year ahead for £325m turnover contractor Osborne will see a “step change” in the volume of public sector projects using BIM, according to Dr Rennie Chadwick, the company’s director of design and IT and a member of the CIOB Innovation and Research panel.

The question is not WHY should one ban the use of paper on construction sites but WHY NOT?

The starting premise is similar to all ‘BIM stories’, it builds on the theory that the AEC industry is notoriously bad at modernising its processes and its archaic information management causes losses to many, if not all participants.
The proposed solution to the problem is however fundamentally different to most globally accepted ‘mainstream’ BIM approaches.
Rather than turning to smart tools, software packages, programmes and systems, the onus of the strategy is put on the non-BIM construction practitioners to raise their performance. BIM Task Group misses out on long-term level three funding

The government’s BIM tsar Mark Bew expects central government support for BIM to continue beyond 2016, despite the task group charged with implementing the policy receiving less funding than hoped for in this year’s Autumn Statement spending round.
